Consolidated Rental
Car Bus Operation George Bush Intercontinental
Airport/Houston
Lea+Elliott provided
program design support for a bus system to transport
passengers between the terminal area and a new
consolidated rental car facility at George Bush
Intercontinental Airport/Houston. Key elements of the
busing study included a review of the existing data, a
field survey of the existing bus operations, development
of key assumptions and criteria, determination of the ridership, and development of bus route alternatives. We
also identified appropriate bus technologies, identified
key requirements for facilities, estimated bus delivery
schedule, and provided capital and O&M cost estimates. A
major part of this project was observation of existing
rental car busing operations, discussion of numerous
miscellaneous issues including low-floor vs.
standard-floor buses, alternative fuels, bus maintenance
manpower plan, bus electronics, comparative busing
characteristics/operations for consolidated rental car
facilities at other airports, and competitive
procurement approaches. Lea+Elliott also developed
procurement specifications for the new buses and
provided testing and operation and maintenance support
for the project.
