Washington Dulles International Airport

Lea+Elliott is currently advising Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) on the implementation of a new underground APM system at Washington Dulles International Airport. The APM will be for security-cleared passengers and will connect the existing main terminal and Concourse B (Tier 1) with a new Tier 2 concourse. Lea+Elliott’s responsibilities are:

  • Planning – Ridership estimates, operation and maintenance scenarios and guideway switch requirements;
     

  • Preliminary Design – Defining the route alignment and train requirements;
     

  • Procurement Documents - Developing the Request for Proposals, General Provisions, Special Provisions, Technical Provisions, Reference Drawings, and the Operations and Maintenance Provisions;
     

  • Scheduling - Developing the overall project schedule from project definition through procurement, design and implementation;
     

  • Fixed Facilities - Developing the APM tunnel, stations, maintenance and storage, electrical power and central control room design criteria necessary to accommodate the APM operating system equipment;
     

  • Contractor Selection - Assisting and advising MWAA in the evaluation of the APM proposals;
     

  • Implementation Oversight – Design reviews, manufacturing, installation, testing, and commissioning.
