Miami International
Airport
In 1993 Lea+Elliott was
selected to assist Miami Dade Aviation Department (MDAD)
and Dade Aviation Consultants (DAC) in planning the new
Concourse A-D (North Terminal) development. Working with
the client, American Airlines and other consultants,
Lea+Elliott evaluated different transportation
alternatives for this future terminal. Analyses of
different transportation system configurations were
performed in relation to terminal design proposals. For
each proposed configuration, detailed analyses were
conducted to determine the system ridership, performance
and operation, level of service, and costs.
In 1998, Lea+Elliott was again competitively selected by
representatives from American Airlines, MDAD, and HNTB
to serve as the APM System Consultant for implementation
of the North Terminal APM at Miami International Airport. Lea+Elliott’s major
activities for this project include system planning,
procurement, implementation, APM project management and
administration through all phases of the work:
engineering, fabrication, installation, and start-up.
Mitsubishi was chosen as system supplier through a competitive procurement,
and the system is now under construction. This is the
first application of the Mitsubishi APM technology in
North America. Through association with Mitsubishi on
this project, Lea+Elliott has gained valuable insight
into the Mitsubishi technology, which is becoming a
major new competitive force in the APM industry.
